Chapter 115
Danyal and I talked more after that, I tried to make him understand that it wasn't his fault, but I couldn't make him see reason. But I'm sure he would say the same about me. We both saw failures in things that weren't our fault, or at least he told me it wasn't. But after that all I remember is watching the trees fly by and the rocking of the SUV lulling me to sleep.
"Carina." A voice calls to me.
"Shh." I moan, swatting the hand that rests on my leg away.
But the hand stays and shakes me with more vigor. "Moy svet, we're home."
The word home runs through my mind once more, and slowly my hand finds his again, my fingers sliding between his.
"What time is it?" I murmur as I open my eyes, blinking away the bright lights of the dash.
"It's almost seven."
I turn my head to look at him. His eyes are tired, small dark spots growing with each day, and deep lines have started to set into his skin.
