Patrick continued, "Back then, I was too narrow-minded and only wanted to reap the petty benefits. However, he aimed for greater heights, which led to the outcome today. Since everything has fallen into place, there's no turning back. It's either him or me. One of us has to die."
Hearing that, Wilhelmina didn't know what to say.
Some things were nearly impossible to get back once they were lost. She and Patrick were the same—laughing at each other when, deep down, they both bore the scars of their own choices. But regret meant nothing now. They couldn't get back what they had lost.
Just then, Patrick seemed to recall something and burst into laughter. His laughter was filled with boldness and defiance.
As Wilhelmina looked at the wild look in his eyes, she asked, "Why are you laughing?"
She was worried that Patrick had gone crazy.
He said, "Actually, the gods are fair. Though Jack is an accomplished man, not everything works in his favor."
