Chapter 1229
"I'm not that easy to kill. I'm tough as nails." Jack let out a strained laugh, followed by a few coughs. The pain in his back flared up even worse.
Phoebe's tears streamed down her face as she clung to him. "You scared me to death... I was so terrified..." She had always been strong, but now, her vulnerability was laid bare.
"Huh? What did you just say? I'm a bit fuzzy—can't quite remember," he murmured.
She froze for a second, suddenly recalling what she'd said but playing dumb. "I forgot!"
Then her voice grew tense. "Jack, are you okay? Where does it hurt? Let me take a look—please?"
They had fallen from such a height. Looking up, it had to be at least 300 feet, maybe even more.
For anyone else, a fall from that height would've meant certain death.
The branches had helped cushion the drop, but the force was still brutal, well beyond what any average person could endure.
