Patricia finished speaking, then asked anxiously, "Jack, are you okay? Let me see your injuries."
Jack quickly shook his head. "Silly girl, I'm fine."
She didn't believe him for a second. She wanted to check his wound, but it wasn't convenient out here, so she nodded. "I bought you a ton of supplements. Come on, I'll walk you in."
With that, she grabbed his hand and started toward the villa.
But he hesitated, staying put.
Patricia froze, instantly guessing what was on his mind. Her face paled, and she let out a bitter smile. "Oh, right. I almost forgot—I've got something to take care of. Jack, here, take these supplements. I should get going."
She pushed the bags into his hands and turned to go. But Jack, sharp-eyed as ever, caught the flicker of sadness in her eyes. He reached out and grabbed her wrist. "What's this 'something' you've got tonight?"
"Let go," she muttered, her voice unsteady. "I have a night class, okay? Don't worry, I won't be in your way."
