Chapter 7

A flicker of guilt crossed Sebastian's face. He quickly wrapped his arms around her and said, "Baby, I'm sorry about that. I got so busy that I forgot about your allergy. I promise I'll make it up to you." The following day, Sebastian led Clara to the car in a mysterious manner, claiming he had a surprise for her. Half an hour later, they arrived at a bridal shop. Clara's eyes widened when she caught sight of the wedding dress Sebastian had specially picked out for her. "Why did you bring me here?" she asked incredulously. "You've always wanted to get married, right? So I brought you here to try on the wedding dresses. If you find one you like, we can buy it right away." Sebastian's voice was calm, but Clara felt bitterness flooding her heart. Why would she buy a wedding dress? It would be nothing but a decoration. Even though she had no idea what Sebastian was planning, she did need a dress for her wedding. Thus, she patiently tried on the dresses. In the end, Sebastian pointed at the last dress she'd tried and told the store attendant, "We'll take this one. Pack it up and have it delivered to this address." After providing them with the villa's address, he stood up and approached Clara, giving her a big hug. His warm breath fanned her ear as he whispered gruffly, "Baby, you looked gorgeous in that dress." Clara deliberately asked, "It must cost a lot, right? I'll pay for it." "It's just a wedding dress. I can afford it." Sebastian held her hand, only to realize the silver ring she'd always treasured was gone. Panic seized his heart. "Where's the ring?" Clara pulled her hand back and replied indifferently, "I didn't want to lose it, so I kept it at home." "It's not expensive. If you lose it, we can buy a new one. Baby, give me more time. Once I've earned enough money, I'll buy you a huge diamond ring and officially propose to you," he promised. Clara had had enough of his lies. All that remained in her heart was cold derision and endless contempt. Sebastian gently caressed the ring mark on her finger before raising her hand to his lips and pressing a soft kiss to the mark. As his gaze drifted past Clara, he suddenly did a double take. "Baby, why don't you try on a few more dresses? I'll go buy some snacks for you." After saying that, he released his hold on Clara and went out in a hurry. Noticing something amiss in his expression, she quickly changed back into her clothes and trailed after him. When she finally caught up with him, she saw a terrible car accident at the T-junction up ahead. Erica lay in a pool of blood, and Sebastian, despite being injured himself, refused to let go of her. When both of them were taken into the ambulances, Sebastian mustered the last ounce of his energy to grip the paramedic's hand. "Save her first…" As the ambulances sped away, Clara stood frozen. "That young couple was probably arguing. I saw the woman storming into the middle of the road in a fit of anger, and the guy got hit by a car trying to save her. I think the guy's injuries are probably more serious." "Yeah, before the accident, he was asking the girl to forgive him. Now, they're both injured." Clara felt her head buzz. Clutching her chest, she couldn't help but crouch, her heart aching as if it were being ripped apart. After witnessing that accident, she finally understood. This was how Sebastian acted when he truly loved someone. Her lips twitched weakly. She wasn't angry at all. She merely found it funny how easily she'd fallen for his lies during the past three years. Just then, she got a call from the hospital, and she answered numbly. "Ms. Zimmerman, your follow-up appointment is at ten o'clock tomorrow morning. Please be punctual."
