In response, Joshua hissed through gritted teeth, "I seem to recall you never liked attending these family gatherings, Gabriel."
A cold snort escaped Gabriel's lips. "Back when I was alone, of course, I didn't like showing up. Now that I have a wife and a home, though, it's only natural to attend family dinners. I'm not like some people who hide behind excuses like cowards."
"Gabriel Colman! Watch what you say!" Joshua's voice iced over. Faced with his brother's open mockery, he was seething with anger. He could barely hold his temper in check.
Just then, a coughing fit echoed down the hallway, and in ambled Marjorie.
Joshua swallowed his anger and stood down.
"Gabriel rarely comes home. Joshua, as the older brother, can't you show a little more restraint?"
