Chapter 6

Joshua cast a quick glance at Marissa when he entered her ward. She blurted out, "Nothing. I'm recovering well. He congratulated me because I'm getting discharged soon." She was in no mood to share the pregnancy news with Joshua. Not only that, she did not look forward to the baby's arrival at all. After she explained the situation, he gave her a gentle hug from behind. "Darling, look. It's snowing." They were not in Platonia, and it wasn't winter yet. Where did the snow come from? She looked at him, and he smiled. "Do you like it? I specially prepared it for you. An accident happened in Platonia, but I'll give you the snow you wanted." "Is it really for me? Joshua, what exactly is your relationship with Roxanne?" She seemed to see Roxanne's reflection through his loving eyes. Far from being touched, she felt sad. His temper flared in the face of her stubbornness. "Have you been giving me the cold shoulder all because you suspect that I'm cheating on you with Roxanne?" "Yes!" His voice shook with anger. "Marissa, I explained to you that the avalanche was a misunderstanding. I apologized and even created snow for you. What more do you want? Will you only trust me if I rip my heart out of my chest and hand it to you?" "Even if you did, I still wouldn't trust you!" The air between them froze. The light in his eyes slowly dimmed, and he snorted. "You're being ridiculous!" With that, he turned around and left without hesitation. A few snowflakes fluttered into the ward and melted on the back of Marissa's hand. She flinched a little at the cold sensation. She got out of bed and, clutching the wall, stumbled over to the doctor's office. "Doctor, I can't keep the baby. Can you book an abortion for me?" "Ms. Eagan, you can't get an abortion in your current state of health. You can only do so when you've recovered, or you might lose your life." After some deliberation, she gritted her teeth and stood by her decision to get an abortion. Since Joshua had let her down, she wouldn't keep anything that was associated with him. It was time to bid farewell to him. "How long will it take for me to recover?" "It'll take at least two more months." "Fine. I'll wait!" Gabriel, Joshua's younger brother who had sworn to never get married, would return in a month's time. By then, she would get divorced from Gabriel and abort Joshua's child. She'd have nothing to do with Joshua anymore. Holding the pregnancy report, she slowly made her way back to her ward. When she saw Roxanne at the door, she quickly hid the report. Putting on a cold expression, she asked, "Why did you return?" Roxanne looked at her with a smile before giving her a tight hug. "Marie, I'm here with some good news. I'm pregnant!"
