Bethany was still half asleep and had forgotten about the mark on her face. Her expression was indifferent as she said, "It's nothing. My mom hit me."
Silas' frown deepened. "Did you put medicine on it? Why did she hit you?"
Bethany laughed bitterly. "Because I told her I wanted to cut ties with her. I guess I made her angry. I'm sorry, but I don't plan to invite her to our wedding."
Bethany thought Silas valued her status as Gary's stepdaughter more than anything, and she'd almost forgotten that their marriage was an agreement.
