Chapter 24
Evan remained standing where he was and gave a stiff nod.
Grace quickly unlocked her phone and played the audio recording. After a brief burst of static, a familiar voice came through the speaker, one he hadn't heard in so long.
"Evan, by the time you hear this, I'll likely be gone from this world. I know you were reborn, but I never understood why you wouldn't acknowledge me. Why did you keep hurting me, again and again?
"It made me question if the man who once loved me in our past life ever truly existed. But now, none of that matters. I'm dying anyway."
She let out a faint laugh, tinged with relief. "In our last life, I was the one who wronged you. I was selfish and didn't love you, causing you great pain. I deserved the ending we had.
"This time, I wanted to make things right and love you properly. Yet, it seems you cannot accept my attempt to make amends, and that's fine. Consider the pain you caused me as my compensation to you.
"Evan, we are even now. Please live well
