"Do you remember the letter in my grandma's diary?" Abigail asked.
Xander nodded. "Of course."
Abigail continued, "Did it make you sad for the mother who wrote it? Imagine if she hadn't died and got to raise her child—"

Abigail hesitated for a moment. "When did you find out?"
Xander replied, "After I read that letter, I believed it was something your grandma wrote. I looked into it and discovered some interesting stuff."
"What did you find out?" Abigail asked.
Xander replied, "Mike Renee, the man you believed was your grandfather? He wasn't real. Your grandma created him. When she moved to North Florivera with your dad, she claimed she was a widow, but no one ever knew or met this 'Mike'."
Abigail murmured, "I never figured that out."
Xander, rubbing her back, said, "When you're directly involved, it's harder to see things clearly. But outsiders? Sometimes they get a better view. Don't beat yourself up about it."
