Chapter 12

The room was flooded with bright light. Downstairs, the upscale dining room had two identical breakfasts laid out on the ivory-white table. Dominic sat on the couch in the living room, a steaming cup of coffee placed on the coffee table. His eyes never left the tablet in his hands. Louise came down the stairs. Hearing the sound, Dominic turned his head. He had a subtle smile on his perfect face. "The outfit suits you." Louise nervously folded her hands. Even though they were technically married, they were no better than strangers. Yet, they'd been so physically close-it left her unsure of how to act now. "How did you even know my size?" she asked, trying not to sound too awkward. Dominic got up and walked over, stopping right in front of her. "You figure it out once you've felt it." Her cheeks instantly heated up. Flustered, she quickly turned away and headed toward the dining room. "Hurry up and eat. It's almost time for work." The table had sandwiches and milk. Louise took a bite, hesitating over whether to speak. She snuck a glance at him. He was still absorbed in his tablet-it looked like some real estate development project. "About last night... thanks." Without looking up, Dominic replied in that deep, magnetic voice, "Which part are you talking about?" Louise froze for a moment. What else could it be, if not him stopping some guy from taking her home? Or... maybe it's when he helped with the effects of that thing she took last night? That train of thought made her glare at him, half-angrily. Could this guy be any more cunning? "Everything... thanks." "No need for that." He put down the tablet and looked straight at her. "I'm just doing what a husband should." "What time do you start work?" "Nine," she answered honestly. Dominic glanced at the time. "We've got time. Don't rush." After breakfast, they headed out. Louise waited by the door while Dominic pulled out a sleek business-style Benz from the garage. It was simple but classy-just like him. Once in the car, she hesitated. "About last night, that place..." Before she could finish, Dominic suddenly leaned in. He was so close she could see the faint stubble on his jaw from shaving. Her breathing hitched. Was he going to kiss her? Sure, they'd done everything else, but this-this would be their first intentional kiss. She quickly closed her eyes, ready for it. Then she felt his hand brush past her, and a click sounded. "Seatbelt," he said. Louise instantly looked down, wishing the seat could just swallow her whole. Seriously? He was just helping with her seatbelt? And she was over here thinking he was making a move? "Thanks," she mumbled, barely audible. Dominic let out a low chuckle and started the car, driving off smoothly. About thirty minutes later, the car stopped at a corporate building entrance. Dominic looked out the window and spoke, "You work at Bennett Corp.?" Louise blinked, then gave a little nod. Yeah, this was the Bennett building, and she'd mentioned she was an employee during their blind date. "I do." "I'm going to be working with Bennett Corp. soon. Maybe we'll run into each other." Louise looked at him, stunned. Bennett Corp. was still relatively new. Any major projects would've been on her radar-but she hadn't heard a thing. Dominic didn't explain further. He simply smiled at her, warmth in his expression. "Let me know when you're moving in." "Okay."
