Chapter 431
Early in the morning, Louise Bennett was feeding Charlie when the sound of the front door being opened caught her attention.
Dominic Ellis hurried to answer it. Seeing Jane at the door with a bunch of bags, he quickly took them from her and said, “Why’d you carry all this by yourself?”
With a wide smile, Jane set the bags down on the table. “My old buddy's son just got married, and they insisted I stay a bit longer. I told them fine, but only if they let me take a few of their backyard chickens when I leave. And guess what? They agreed.”
Louise chuckled from inside the room when she heard that—Jane really was becoming more like a big kid the older she got.
“Come on now, you two haven’t had breakfast yet, right? I made some chicken soup for you—slow-cooked, all from our own chickens. Smells amazing. Where’s the little girl? Is she up yet?”
Louise called out, “She’s up! I’ve been thinking about you the last few days—then here you are!”
Jane washed her hands and stepped into the bedroom,
