Chapter 264
Damien sat in the dark of his office, rhythmically tapping his fingers against his table as if waiting for something to happen. So it came as no surprise to him when three knocks sounded across his door and his assistant peaked his head through.
"Sir," he called out carefully, taking one cautious step inside. Damien didn't look up from his table, but his silence served as a green card to go ahead.
Taking another cautious step in, the assistant closed the door behind him and held a leaflet close to his chest.
"Golden Home Orphanage called, sir."
That was enough to get Damien's attention. His finger stopped and slowly he looked up. But when his eyes landed on his assistant, the poor man couldn't help but flinch.
They looked lifeless, no, they looked soulless and the smile that curved the corners of Damien's lips did little to help the look.
"What did they say?"
Swallowing down his fear, he took a step closer. "Someone's been digging into the Orphanage's files about your identity, Sir." P
