Chapter 2 Billions Aren't Enough?

Jack spoke with a sharp tone, "Tell the chef to make more and send it up! How are we supposed to eat like this! Mom, can't you control her?" Marsha looked at her son, who hadn't eaten much and now had nothing left to eat, with concern, saying, "Don't learn from her. She eats like a pig, do you want to eat like a pig too?" Catherine paused for a moment, then looked up at Marsha for a few seconds. Marsha, feeling embarrassed and angry, said, "No manners! How dare you look at your mother like that!" At this moment, the melodious background music from Jack's phone rang out. He kept his head down and sarcastically said, "Hillbilly, haven't played this before? Let me tell you, it cost me a lot of money to get into the closed beta of this game!" Darlene smiled and praised, "Jack, is this the new version of the game you're planning to go pro in?" "Of course, sis! I was invited by the game company to participate in the closed beta!" Catherine finally finished eating, burped, glanced at Jack's phone, and looked disdainful. Unfortunately, neither Jack nor anyone else noticed. "I can show off in front of my classmates because my dearest sister helped me climb ranks!" Jack sat down next to Darlene, trying to please her. "Why don't you play a game with me, sis? It's been so long since we've had a break, why don't you relax a bit too!" Marsha looked indulgently at them and said, "Just play with him for a while, consider it a break, don't push yourself too hard." Darlene sighed lightly, smiled helplessly, and took out her phone. Her demeanor was that of an affectionate older sister spoiling her younger brother. Why should I have to accompany Jack just because he wants to play? Darlene looked down at her phone, her gentle fringe swaying to reveal her eyes filled with frustration. Catherine couldn't help but chuckle. So, Marsha is more affectionate towards Jack now? Realizing how despicable the Oris family is? Darlene looked up, her gentle demeanor restored, and asked softly, "Sister, do you want to join us? I can teach you." "No need." Catherine refused. "Don't be ungrateful! My sister is at a professional level in gaming, and so many people are begging her for advice!" Jack rolled his eyes. "What's the point of acting all high and mighty when you don't even know how to play the game, you country bumpkin!" "Don't play for too long, it will affect your sister's studies," Decan said casually. Without lifting his head, Jack replied, "My sister is doing great in her studies! Dad, instead of watching over my sister, why don't you check on that useless person." In an instant, everyone's gaze fell on Catherine. Darlene's slender fingers tapped on the phone screen quickly, a smile playing on her lips. Soon, she put her phone down, furrowing her brows lightly, and said, "That's rude." "What score did you get in your final exams?" Decan asked Catherine, looking disdainful. Marsha, with a hint of frustration mixed with disgust, looked on. What score? Catherine crossed her arms, looked up at the ceiling with a tilt of her head, and said frankly, "Forgot." At this, Marsha made a sound of confirmation, and Decan frowned, rebuking sternly, "Although you didn't receive the upbringing of the Oris family since childhood, your academic performance must improve! Otherwise, it's a disgrace to our Oris family!" Catherine nodded indifferently. Seeing her nonchalant attitude, Decan said coldly, "The Oris family will support you until you graduate from university! The previous support will also be provided! After you turn twenty-two, you will have to live on your own. Don't claim to be from the noble Oris family anymore!" Catherine was ecstatic. There's more to it? She immediately stood up and went upstairs. If it weren't for that kind and elegant old lady, who would want to come back! Not long after, there was a crazed scream from Jack downstairs. "My account got banned! SciStar! F*** you!" Upstairs, Catherine's room was dark, with the curtains drawn. Her computer on the table kept receiving messages from the intranet communication software, with small red dots flashing one after another, until they were picked up by a hand that exuded extreme elegance. SciStar: Sister, I've banned the person you asked me to ban. SciStar: It's been a long time since you logged in, Catherine sister. Have you forgotten about our game? SciStar: Please don't, Catherine sister. You're my real sister, my ancestor! Are you interested in building the Second World together? SciStar: Sister, say something. Any conditions are fine! The profit split can be negotiated, there are tens of billions of players worldwide waiting! The fluorescent Star (Catherine): Not interested. SciStar: Sister, please reconsider. That's billions of profit! The fluorescent Star (Catherine): Not doing it. With that, the avatar darkened. On the other side of the world, in a city in another country, a young man looked at the darkened username on the screen, holding his head in his hands and sighing deeply. SciStar muttered to himself with empty eyes, "So arrogant? Billions don't matter? " It was a mistake, indeed. No wonder she's called the Goddess of Creation in the game, Catherine, with her seemingly enticing chips, turned them down just like that. Rushed. The next day, Catherine returned from her morning run, and the Oris family was already awake. Jack's gaming account was banned again, and he bought a new one to play, but many rare items were gone, leaving him dejected. Darlene was trying to cheer him up, Marsha joined in, and Decan sat on the sofa reading the newspaper, looking at the three of them with soft eyes, joking and laughing. When Catherine entered, all four of them stopped and looked at her, as if blaming her for breaking the cozy and joyful family atmosphere. Catherine silently observed their reactions, evaluating them in her heart: Truly boring. For her morning run, Catherine changed out of her skirt from yesterday and wore black sports shorts, a simple black baseball cap on her head, and gray sneakers. She looked healthy and energetic. Darlene's face stiffened, as if she had received some kind of medical injection. She clearly saw the sweat beads sliding down Catherine's face along her curved line, and Catherine had no makeup on, yet her complexion was so good, her skin clear and translucent, making herself, who had spent hours in front of the dressing table, look so ugly. As Catherine approached, Darlene collected her thoughts, smiled, and greeted her, "Good morning, sister. When did you rest yesterday? You came back at five in the morning, your skin looks really good, can you teach me, sister?" If Catherine didn't bring it up, Marsha's face turned dark. "What were you doing out so late? Don't you have any sense of propriety?" Jack interjected, "Mom, I think she couldn't get any money from you and dad, so she's trying to earn pocket money!"
