Chapter 10
Cecily stood at the door with her luggage, her face drawn and tired. She quietly adjusted the bandage on her injured arm, tucking it farther into her sleeve to keep it hidden before lifting her fist to knock.
Mary's voice came from inside. "Who is it?"
When Mary opened the door and saw Cecily, her eyes widened. "Cece, you're really back? I thought you were only saying that before."
She turned toward the house and shouted, "Tom, it's Cece! She's home!"
"What? Cece's actually back?"
Cecily's father, Tom Sweeney, jumped from the couch and hurried to the door. He grabbed her luggage and carried it inside, while Mary linked arms with Cecily and led her in.
"Why are you really back? You and Clyde—"
Cecily cut her off. "Mom, I was in an accident. I lost my memory. I don't remember anything about him."
When Mary heard Cecily mention she'd been in a car accident, she immediately tried to pull her aside to check for injuries.
