Chapter 19

August in Jafton brought constant thunderstorms. Joseph sat in his office on the top floor of Quill Group's building, staring at the phone in front of him. He was waiting for a call—one that would tell him both Philip and Irene were dead. It was the only way he could think of to bring Tiana back to him. The idea was Irene's. She said she'd used the baby as an excuse to get Philip to take her to a wellness retreat in the suburbs, where she would spend a few days. Then, she would have him return to Jafton on his own. Joseph's job was to bribe the driver and arrange a flawless "accident". However, Joseph wanted her to die with Philip. And so, after bribing the driver, he had the family doctor send Philip a copy of Irene's test results, saying she had to return with him and be admitted to the hospital to keep her pregnancy stable. With Philip's forceful personality, Irene couldn't refuse. She had no choice but to get into the car, and she told Joseph the plan was off for that night.
