Chapter 39
Beth’s POV
I stumble a few steps, trying to make it look as if I was running. I know that I’m just stalling, grabbing a few precious moments to be able to pull my act together – because this is the only shot I have. If I mess this up, my pack will pay for it. If I can’t manage to hold myself together for them, then everything else in my little world will fall apart.
I’m not going to let anyone get hurt because of me. I’ve been hurt because of my father, and I know how it feels. To be punished for things you couldn’t stop. For things you didn’t do.
My pack doesn’t deserve that. More pain than I ever went through, because of me.
I don’t let myself think about Aaron, or little Heath. That sweet baby, the adorable kid with the big eyes and messy hair. Aaron, my rock, my anchor, holding me to this world when all I wanted was to leave it.
