It was well past midnight.
Sebastian stood alone in the study, staring out at the thick layer of snow outside. His mind could only replay the image of Elaria, her face soaked with tears, looking completely crushed.
There was no way she could take all this anymore.
His gaze drifted into the darkness, turmoil hidden beneath those tired eyes.
He had never really made her happy, had he? All he ever did was hurt her, let her down, make her cry. This... this wasn't how loving someone was supposed to be.
Sebastian wasn't around the next morning.
Elaria washed up on her own and headed out, thinking she'd grab something to eat. The baby growing inside her still needed nourishment, even if she didn't have much of an appetite.
She opened the door to the lounge-and froze.
Her grandmother was there, one hand clutching a bamboo basket, the other holding the dog, Bai. Her kind, loving eyes looked straight at her.
