“The baby’s coming.”
Ruby Henderson gripped Daniel Richards’ hand hard, her jaw clenched as the words squeezed out.
Daniel, totally inexperienced in this situation, looked down at her and saw the front of her nightgown soaked—it had to be her water breaking.
He held onto her, Adam’s apple bobbing as he said, “Don’t worry, I’m taking you to the hospital right now.”
It was late, and the Davies house was suddenly in chaos.
Mrs. Henderson rushed out in her robe, two sleepy kids in tow. She wanted to go with them, but Daniel gently scooped Ruby into the back seat and said, “Please stay here and watch the kids. I’ll be with her the whole time… I’ll get someone from my family to help too. I promise I won't let Ruby suffer.”
Still uneasy, Mrs. Henderson hesitated—until a calm voice broke through, “I’m going with you.”
