The hospital room was spotless.
Daniel Richards shifted a bit and hissed in pain as a sharp burn flared on his back. He grimaced and cursed under his breath.
David Davies had never seen him like this before.
But instead of finding it crude, he actually felt kind of warm watching him like that.
Daniel reached out, trying to ruffle David’s hair, but the bed was too far away. He grumbled, clearly annoyed, “Seriously? Why are you sitting all the way over there?”
David pressed a smile but soon ended up gritting his teeth too—it hurt.
Daniel chuckled, “Ah, you’re young and soft—can’t handle the pain, huh? Unlike me, thick-skinned and tough.”
A fresh wave of pain hit, and Daniel winced again. Once it eased up, he lay back down, breathing heavily. “You’re lucky to be alive, kid. We’ve been through hell together. Nothing else matters now, right?”
