Chapter 16 Someone’s Inherent Quality Would Not Change In Just Two Years

Charles’ manner was imposing. It was as if his eyes could see through everything. Panic flashed across Leah’s eyes. She backed away oddly and said softly, “Yeah. Sophia said as long as my brother breaks up with Audrey, she promised to stay with him.” Charles chuckled coldly. His eyes were extremely icy. He knew someone’s inherent quality would not change in just two years. “Charles,” Leah felt horrible when she thought about what she saw when she saw it. “Sophia’s relationship with my brother is unclear and she still wanted to get close to you. She’s so unrestrained. I don’t know whether she’s sick or not. You should keep your distance from her.” The word ‘unrestrained’ caused Charles’ eyes to become even colder. “Do you think it’s your business who I should keep my distance with?” Leah’s eyes turned red. “Charles, I’m just concerned about you. There are no ulterior motives.” Tears welled up in her eyes and they made her look extremely alluring. Charles looked at her coldly. He did not say anything. “Charles, I’m just doing this for your own good,” she said helplessly and bit her lip. “I know what you’re after better than anyone else.” Charles walked past her and there was disgust in his eyes. “Don’t use those cheap tricks on me.” In that instant, Leah’s face turned pale. She wanted to say something but he had already left. She gripped her cane and looked at her limp left leg. There was a sinister look in her pained and pretty face. “Charles, why can’t you see everything that I’ve done for you?” … Sophia went back to her dorm. She leaned against the door. Her eyes were lifeless. After a while, it was as if she remembered something. She started wiping her bleeding lips furiously. While she was doing that, tears rolled down her cheeks and went into her mouth along with her blood. It was bitter and there was also a hint of the metallic taste of blood. She sat on the floor lifelessly for more than ten minutes before dragging her exhausted body into bed. She did not have time to weep. She needed to get up and start work in about six hours. However, this night was destined to be chaotic. Not long after Sophia lay down, she felt a gut-wrenching pain in her stomach. “What happened?” Megan came in and she was shocked when she saw Sophia’s pale face. Sophia’s lips twitched. Her voice sounded hoarse because she was sick. “I’m fine. It’s just my stomach.” “Go and buy some medicine if you have stomach troubles. You can’t just power through this.” Megan pulled her hand. “There’s a pharmacy nearby. I’ll go with you.” “Thanks.” … When the two of the finished purchasing what they needed and was about to call a taxi to go back, someone called out suddenly. “Soph?” This voice was too familiar. Sophia’s pupils constricted. Her lips trembled slightly. “Soph, is that really you?” A handsome man who looked similar to her walked over and patted on her shoulder in joy. Sophia pressed her lips together. She wanted to call out to her brother but it felt like something was stuck in her throat. She could not say anything. “I’ll wait for you over there,” Megan said. Sophia nodded. “Why didn’t you look for me when you got out of prison?” Sterling White looked at her scrawny body. There was pity and regret in his eyes. In order to save themselves, the Whites gave up Sophia. He begged his family but they locked him up so he could not do anything. He could only watch as Sophia was sent to prison. Sophia ran her hair through her unruly hair. Her throat felt dry. “I didn’t have the time.” She wanted to look at her family in secret and then kill herself. However, she ran into Charles halfway. The autumn breeze was cold. She could not help but shiver. In an instant, a suit jacket was draped across her shoulders. “Why didn’t you put on more clothes if you’re cold? Also, what’s happened to your clothes? Don’t only janitors wear this? When did your taste become so bad?” Sophia lowered her eyes and hid the expression in her eyes. “I’m a janitor now. This is my uniform.” Sterling was shocked. There was disbelief on his face. The little princess that he pampered, his sister that did not need to worry about anything but herself was a janitor now?
