Noah flashed a bright smile. "Don't worry, Bethany. I get it, so I've been trying to accept her lately."
"That's the way it should be," Bethany said.
She hesitated for a moment but kept quiet about knowing Ruth. She didn't want to offer Noah any advice or use his admiration for her to influence his judgment. It felt too selfish.

She got up, ready to leave. "Alright, I should get going."
"I'll walk you out, Bethany," Noah said, following her downstairs.
When they arrived at the sidewalk, he suddenly asked, "Bethany, do you think she'd still have feelings for me if she finds out what happened to me?"
Bethany smiled. "She'll only feel sorry for everything you've been through if she truly loves you. Trust me."
