The first thing I became aware of as I drifted back to consciousness was the unforgiving crick in my neck and the numb tingling in my legs from having fallen asleep in an awkward position. The second thing I noticed was the excruciating pain in my lower back, right where a spring in the couch had been jutting into me all night.
Grimacing, I cracked one eye open—only to be greeted by the sight of Ophelia and Leonard sprawled out on the loveseat opposite me, their limbs tangled in a way that would surely leave them just as stiff and sore as I was.
A soft snore then drew my gaze to my right, where Chris lay slumped against the armrest of the sofa. His tousled hair fell across his forehead in a way that made my fingers itch with the urge to brush it back, his chest rising and falling gently.
