Chapter 4 What was Love?
Hazel left the hotel without turning back.
Lamont looked at the girl's departing figure, and a hint of inexplicable worry flashed through his eyes.
She had already gone through such a difficult time, but she still refused his money without hesitation.
Was the purpose of approaching him just for Jefferey?
She seemed to be no longer the little girl in his memory.
It was already one o'clock in the morning when Hazel came out of the hotel with her weak legs.
Looking at the few pedestrians on the street, she could no longer suppress her emotions and crouched down to cry in agony.
Was it wrong from the beginning when she took the risk of seducing Lamont?
Under the dim streetlights, the shadow of Hazel was stretched out, appearing particularly lonely.
“Why are you crying alone here? What happened?" A cleaning lady passed by and saw Hazel crouching on the roadside crying alone. She couldn't help but come forward and ask.
Hazel raised his tearful eyes and looked at the cleaning lady, choking, "My father was wrongly imprisoned, and my sister and I were the only ones left to support the whole family. Everyone was waiting for our joke, and I realized that I couldn't hold on anymore.”
Over the past year, she had acted as if nothing could break her in front of outsiders, but in fact, she had already been exhausted.
Perhaps only in front of strangers could she reveal her feelings.
The cleaning lady comforted and said, "No one can have a smooth sailing all their lives, but every hardship is the driving force for our growth and progress. Cheer up, and everything will be okay.”
Since the incident, the people around her had not only been sarcastic and distant, but also added insult to injury.
But she never expected that a strange cleaning lady would give her the best encouragement.
There were still someone kind in this world.
Hazel wiped the tears and nodded forcefully, "Thank you. I will definitely pick myself up.”
All the hardships were the driving force for her growth and progress.
Since one attempt to seduce Lamont failed, then she would have a second try!
If it really didn't work, she would make him addicted to her.
She could feel him interested in her body.
By the time Hazel adjusted her mindset and hurriedly returned to the rented house, it was already two o'clock in the morning.
She opened the door and unexpectedly saw Maya sitting on the sofa.
She was only wearing a thin suspender dress, and her pretty face was slightly pale without any makeup. Her eyes were red and she looked as if she had cried.
Hazel only hesitated for a moment, then walked up to Maya and asked softly, "Maya, why are you here?”
“Who is that man?”
As the once a dignified representative of New York, Maya had always spoken softly and never spoken heavily to Hazel.
This time it was still the same.
But when she looked at her disappointed eyes, Hazel felt as if his heart had been hit, so painful that she couldn't breathe.
“Lamont.”
She did not conceal it.
Upon hearing this, Maya's face became even angrier and she said, "Do you know who Lamont is? How dare you provoke him? You will cause yourself troubles.”
Hazel only said, "I found out that the person who framed our father has a commercial cooperation with the Hurst Group. Only by approaching Lamont can I have the opportunity to investigate the truth.”
Maya interrupted her with red eyes, "But I don't want you to lose a lifetime of happiness. You should find a man who truly loves you and spend the rest of your life peacefully. This is both my and our father's wish.”
“A man truly loves me?”
Hazel chuckled softly as if she had heard some big joke and said, "What is love? There are so many heartless people in history. Just like you and Devyn...”
She suddenly had a moment of stillness.
Maya's body also trembled slightly.
She once naively thought that marrying Devyn would be a lifetime of happiness, but in the end, it was just a self inflicted humiliation!
What qualification did she have to criticize Hazel like this?
“I'm sorry. "Hazel couldn't help but feel a bit regretful.
How could she add insult to Maya's injury?
“You're right.”
But at this moment, Maya spoke softly, "But it's precisely because my marriage is unfortunate that I don't want you to follow my old path. Lamont is a man you can't handle. Please not to have any more dealings with him, okay?”
Hazel chose to avoid this topic, "I'm a bit sleepy. Let's take a shower first.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she turned around and left.
She didn't want to make Maya difficult, but she had already chosen this path and she had to walk down.
“Ring!”
The phone on the coffee table suddenly made a vibrating sound.
“Listen to me.”
Maya called Hazel while picking up her phone and opening the screen. An automatically played video popped up.
It was the scene of her husband Devyn and other women having sex.
