Chapter 125
Edward barely had time to react when a massive rock tumbled down toward them. Instinctively, he turned sideways, using his shoulder and back to take the full impact.
“Ugh…” A muffled grunt escaped him, but he bit it back, forcing himself not to cry out.
He dropped to his knees, pain shooting through his back like a knife. Still, his arms stayed tightly wrapped around the person in his arms.
Looking down at the top of Alice’s head, Edward’s voice was hoarse. “You okay?”
“I... I'm fine. But you—did that hit you?!” Alice tried to push up, panicking, but he quickly kept her down.
He didn’t want her to see the blood or the bruises. Didn’t want her to worry.
His voice softened. “Don’t move. We’ll get out of here soon.”
But something about his tone put her more on edge. It didn’t sound right.
“Let me go,” Alice said, voice serious now.
But Edward wasn’t about to loosen his grip. After finally holding her like this, he couldn’t let go that easily.
His lips barely moved as he mumbled, “No.”
