But the next second, Charles Bennett’s wrist suddenly got yanked back.
"What are you pulling me for? Can't you see Jessica Lane’s about to sell herself drunk?!"
Charles was fuming. He gritted his teeth and glared toward the booth.
Edward retracted his hand, his voice cold but sharp, eyes boring into Charles. "Do you even know why you're trying to help her?"

The music behind them was still pounding like crazy, but it made his spine tingle. After a long pause, he glanced at Edward’s smirking face, scowled, then marched toward the exit without another word.
As Charles disappeared through the bar’s door, Jessica’s flushed face suddenly went pale. She yanked her hand free from the foreign man and took a deep gulp of her drink.
The old man, clearly thrilled, leaned in again, his hands creeping toward her thigh.
