Chapter 4
After breakfast, Emmanuel and I went to the company together.
But I really couldn't stand sitting in the front passenger seat, so I insisted on sitting in the back.
“I get car sick. The back seat is more comfortable; I can feel the breeze.”
Emmanuel didn't push me further: “Alright, I'll try to drive more steadily.”
When we arrived at the company entrance, Emmanuel ran over to help me open the door.
As I got out of the car, I was once again surrounded by employees during the morning rush hour.
A few executives ran over and flattered, “Madam Erin has arrived? Boss keeps mentioning that you like milk tea; I'll go buy some for you right away.” "
Another said, “I'll go buy some snacks. Madam Erin likes small cakes.”
Emmanuel scolded them with a laugh, “Stop feeding her. Erin is a bit overweight now; she can't even fit her wedding ring anymore.”
“Boss, you're wrong. Madam Erin looks slim. If the wedding ring doesn't fit, it must be the ring's fault—it's shrunk!”
“Go on, go on, if you're going to flatter her, at least do it subtly. Silver doesn't shrink!”
“You just don't understand. Boss loves his wife so much. As long as she's happy, he's happy. Then we all have a good life, don't we?”
Emmanuel smiled and said good-naturedly, “Alright, alright, you've got me there.”
Everyone burst into laughter.
I was almost carried into Emmanuel’s office.
There were fruits, snacks, and milk tea—everything you could want.
Emmanuel even used his computer to find a TV series for me: “Erin, I have to go back to work. You can stay here and play. If you need anything, just call Luke outside.”
I deliberately asked, “Where’s your personal assistant Janet? Why didn’t I see her today?”
Emmanuel said, “I don't know either. I'll have HR call and check.”
As he was leaving, Emmanuel affectionately ruffled my hair and whispered, “Wait for me to come back, and we'll have lunch together.”
Emmanuel left.
The executives also left.
But I noticed his phone on the table and hurried out after him, just in time to overhear the conversation among the executives.
“...The rooftop? Bosss and Janet are getting more and more daring.”
“There's nothing we can do. Who knew Ms. Roberts would suddenly come to the company today? They had to change locations.”
“Should we still send Boss condoms today?”
“No need. I saw him go up earlier, and he had several boxes in his pocket.”
“Hehehehe, Boss is really good at this. He can buy condoms right under his wife’s nose?”
“He had someone run an errand for him. Nowadays, errand services are so convenient. You can buy anything you need.”
I suddenly understood.
Those persistent calls this morning were from the delivery guy.
He placed the order early in the morning, asking the delivery service to buy condoms for him. It seems he’s really looking forward to today’s rooftop rendezvous—he’s already started preparing so early.
“...I wonder if a few boxes will be enough. Last time, Boss and Janet did it in the car for a whole day and night. The next day, when Janet went to work, her walking posture was all off.”
“If it’s not enough, just send him more! As subordinates, we have to take good care of the boss.”
“But you just said we should take good care of the boss’s wife?”
“Hmph, what does she know? A cup of milk tea and a few pastries are enough to keep her happy. With Boss's status and position, who doesn't have a few women on the side? Anyway, with money and power, playing around with women is normal, as long as you keep it hidden from the wife."
“Totally true, she looks so innocent; keeping it from her shouldn't be hard.”
Just then, Emmanuel appeared.
“Don't talk nonsense in front of Erin, got it?”
The executives nodded repeatedly: “We understand, Boss. We’re aware of the situation.”
One of them asked: “Boss, why did you bring Ms. Roberts today? You and Janet had to hide on the rooftop, and we had to be careful with our words.”
Emmanuel glared at him: “Erin is the my wife. She can come and go as she pleases. Why are you butting in?”
“Yes, yes, yes... "
Emmanuel warned again with a stern expression: “Take care of Erin. She had an upset stomach yesterday, so don't give her anything cold or raw. Also, if anyone dares to mention what happened between me and Janet, they'll be out on their ear immediately. Got it?”
The executives nodded with forced smiles: “...”
I didn't hear the rest of the conversation.
I quickly returned to Emmanuel's office and placed his phone among a pile of snacks.
A moment later, Emmanuel entered.
He still had that gentle, gentlemanly demeanor: “Little cat, what are you eating that smells so good?”
The words “little cat” sent a chill down my spine.
I endured the discomfort and asked, “Weren't you at a meeting? Why are you back?”
“I left my phone here. Did you see it?”
I shook my head: “No.”
Emmanuel rummaged through the snacks and found the phone: “It was mixed in with the snacks. You can keep eating. I’ll be going now.”
Ring ring—
This time, it was my phone ringing.
I answered it.
“Hello, is this Ms. Harriet?”
“Yes, it is.”
“Ms. Hill, the flight you booked for next week to Norway has been successfully ticketed. You can simply bring your passport to board the flight.”
“Do I need to bring any other documents besides my passport?”
“No, just your passport.”
“Alright.”
After hanging up, Emmanuel looked puzzled: “Passport? Erin, what do you need your passport for?”
