Chapter 11
Aurora and Lucien moved closer to Mrs Dumont to present their gift.
Lucien had left Aurora in charge of getting the gift so he watched as she brought out a box.
Opening the delicate box, it contained a vintage glass bottle of perfume.
Aurora had a hobby and gift of making unique perfumes and so she made this herself.
“Mrs Dumont, this is the Sullivans family’s gift to you. I hope you like it.”
People around found the gift questioning!
A perfume for the great Mrs Dumont?
Everyone was getting her something rare but Gianna got her this?!
The old lady picked up the perfume and brought it close to her nose.
She smiled.”Thank you, Aurora.”
Aurora was surprised.
How did Mrs Dumont know her name?
Everyone addressed her as Mrs Sullivan in this social circle.
Even if some of them knew her name, she didn’t expect that Mrs Dumont would know it too because they had never met or spoken before, talk more of getting personal.
The old lady continued.”This is a unique scent, I heard you make perfumes, could you have made this yourself?”
Even if Aurora was surprised that she knew that too, she smiled and acted composed.
“Yes, I did. It was made from roses, when I thought of you, Mrs Dumont. I thought of a woman as lovely as a rose. It’s not just a perfume, I added extra supplement to it, it has a calming smell, the kind that instantly makes you feel relaxed.”
Mrs Dumont smiled and instantly spray a bit on herself.
“You did not lie. I could…”
Suddenly, Isobel cut the old lady off.
She couldn’t keep standing there and watch the old lady praise Aurora.
“Mrs Sullivan, you casually made a stupid perfume for Mrs Dumont? Everyone here went to such great lengths to get befitting gifts for her but you made a perfume yourself, I’m sure if this were to be put out in the market, it won’t cost more then a hundred dollars.”
Instantly, everyone’s gazes turned to Aurora and Lucien.
Isobel, loving the scene she was creating, continued.
“Has the Sullivan family fallen so low that they can’t even send out a decent congratulatory gift?”
Lucien’s fists clenched.
He instantly felt the gift wasn’t worth it as Isobel had said.
He felt that Aurora should have spent millions getting Mrs Dumont a gift.
He glared at Aurora and was about to scold her but Aurora spoke, loudly.
“I thought about getting you a lot of things, a lot of things worth millions but then I wondered what would really be beneficial to you, so I made my research, I discovered that you moved here three years ago for peace of mind, and you’ve talked publicly about your struggles with insomnia and headaches. I instantly thought that if I should get you a gift, it should something worth it. So I made this perfume myself, like I said, it isn’t just a perfume with a pleasing smell, it offers some mental relief and I hope it can provide some relief to you, Mrs Dumont.”
Isobel burst into laughter.
“You are exaggerating. A mere perfume that you made can do all that? What else are you going to say? You can make medicine now? I can’t recall you going to medical school so how can you know all this?”Isobel taunted.
At that moment, the red-haired lady standing beside Mrs Dumont took a sniff of the perfume.
“I have experience in this field so let me check it out.”She smiled at Aurora.”There seems to be some slight medicinal fragrance in the air.”
Aurora nodded.”And since it’s your field, you can take it for further testing to know that it’s perfectly safe for Mrs Dumont to use.”
The red-haired woman turned to face Mrs Dumont.
“Grandma, if you don’t want this, I’m going to keep it. I like it already.”
Mrs Dumont eyed her.
“Who says I don’t like it? Just one spray and I feel refreshed.”The old lady then turned to Aurora.
“I might have received a lot of gifts worth millions which I’m grateful for but yours is priceless. For you to sit down and think of a gift that would improve my health is so touching, thank you so much, Aurora.”
She then handed the gift to her butler.
“Take it up to my bedroom.”
Isobel’s face paled instantly.
The old lady had dumped her jewelry among the tons of gifts but carefully took Aurora’s own upstairs!
That wasn’t fair!
Isobel saw the old lady stare at her in disgust and then she shamefully walked away.
Just as she walked away, she heard people talking about her.
“Isn’t she the biological daughter of the Diaz family?”
“Yes…yes. I heard it was discovered almost four years ago that she was the family’s real daughter. She had been living at the countryside before that.”
“No wonder, she lacks the mannerisms of the elites. Imagine her gloating about the price of her gift to Mrs Dumont. Did she seriously think that someone like Mrs Dumont would care about the price?”
“You can’t blame her. She didn’t grow up in money so she might still be getting used to this life.”
“She clearly is a lowlife who doesn’t know the true value of something. Imagine her talking down on a gift that Mrs Dumont likes.”
“Aurora is beautiful in and out. She should be representing the Diaz family. That other girl should go hide her face.”
Isobel’s fists clenched so hard that her fingers started to hurt.
Everyone adored Aurora.
But everything about Aurora, her elegance, her calmness, her air or reserve were all snatched from her!
Aurora and Isobel were born on the same day.
Aurora was born into a poor family but once her father got to know that the baby beside his daughter at the incubator was from a very wealthy family.
He discreetly switched the babies.
No one knew about it except him and his wife who was against it from the start but he selfishly wanted his daughter to live a good life and maybe one day get him out of poverty.
They didn’t appear in Aurora’s life after that. He took Isobel and his wife to the countryside where they lived for years.
Aurora’s real father, Diego wasn’t just selfish, he was an abuser, he physically abused Isobel and his wife, he was a gambler, a drunk and a total terrorist at the countryside.
And one day, he murdered someone.
At that point, his wife, Rosa was tired of keeping that secret and so she told Isobel about her real family.
At that time, both girls were already grown and Aurora was almost done with college.
Isobel, who had always hated her miserable life, immediately located her real family.
At first, they didn’t believe her but a DNA test was conducted and it confirmed the real identity of the Diaz’s daughter.
The Diazs were naturally heartbroken that they had raised someone else’s child and they immediately became distant towards Aurora.
Isobel, on the other hand instantly hated Aurora the very first day she set eyes on her.
She blamed Aurora for Diego’s actions. She blamed Aurora for stealing her life. She blamed Aurora for having everything she should’ve had and with every passing day, with trying to fit into the Diaz family, she hated Aurora even more.
