When my phone screen lit up during the meeting, my focus momentarily broke.
Sophie’s name flashed on the caller ID.
It wasn’t like her to call without reason. I raised my hand, silencing the room. The branch president, who had been reporting, immediately stopped talking as I answered the call.
"Sophie?" I spoke, but what followed wasn’t her voice—it was a man’s disgusting, rasping tone.
“We can start setting up the marriage right away. I’ll be at the Majia warehouse in more than an hour. Don’t worry, this girl is intact. I guarantee you’ll be satisfied!”
There was a pause, then a burst of laughter. “Hehe, you’re so lucky today! Be a good groom tonight, hahahaha.”
My jaw clenched, a cold rage surging within me. Sophie was in trouble. The voice on the other end had said enough to make that clear. I remained silent, listening to every word. My hand reached for a notepad, and I scribbled a note.
“Block all the roads leading out of London. Check surveillance near my house. F
