Chapter 6

Lila's lips curled into a cold, determined smile. "Ethan, I'm pregnant." Ethan's expression shifted instantly, his grip on Lila's wrist tightening to the point where her bones could've snapped at any second. "It's your baby. Your own flesh and blood!" He glared at her, voice flat and cold. "And how exactly are you gonna prove it’s mine?" His icy fingers lifted her chin with clear disgust in his eyes. "You go behind my back, sleep with some random guy, and now you’re shoving it in my face like it's mine? Lila, I can't believe I didn’t see through you before. You really are shameless." Lila’s face went pale. She stared at him, pain tearing through her like a thousand cuts. The hurt was so deep she could barely hold herself together. But instead of crying, she laughed. Her stomach twisted, the baby reacting like it could feel every bit of her heartbreak. Ethan saw how pale she'd gotten and eased off slightly, but the image of her under another man, from that damn photo, flashed through his mind. Whatever softness he felt vanished in an instant, replaced with cold rage. "Come with me." Lila struggled hard against his grip. "Where are you taking me?!" "To get rid of it." "No!" she yelled, wrenching free from him only to fall hard to the ground. Dirt clung to her palms as she looked up, vision blurry. "Why are you doing this to me? That's your baby!" "You really have the nerve to ask that?" His voice was like ice. "The whole damn capital knows I’ve been made a fool of, thanks to you! I was planning our engagement—what did I get in return?" His voice cracked just enough to show something lingering beneath all the anger. Tears streamed down Lila's face. She wanted to explain, to scream her side of the story. But she knew, deep down, whatever she said wouldn’t matter anymore. "Even if that baby's mine, I won’t let someone like you carry it." No matter how much Lila struggled, she couldn’t break free from Ethan’s grasp. Once at the hospital, the sharp smell of disinfectant hit her, making her shudder. She couldn’t even find the strength to cry anymore. "Mr. Mitchell, what would you like us to do?" one of the doctors asked, recognizing Ethan on sight. "Terminate her pregnancy," he said without blinking. The doctor gave Lila a quick glance and nodded. "Understood, Mr. Mitchell." Ethan stood there, emotionless, watching as she was dragged off. But the moment she disappeared into the surgery room, something in his chest clenched hard. Damn it. Why the hell do I still feel sorry for her? Lila was shoved into the surgical room, the cold instruments too close for comfort. Her breath caught in her throat as she panicked. "Doctor, please… I don’t want to lose this baby!" "Mr. Mitchell has given strict orders. You need to cooperate." That clinical tone sent chills down her spine. She had no one left except the child inside her. That baby was the only reason she was holding on. She couldn’t lose it—not like this.
