Outside the gates, Lucius caught the voice coming through the intercom. He glanced toward the security cameras and smiled at Valerie through them. "It's my honor to accept your invitation."
No sooner had he spoken than the tightly shut double doors swung open, as if extending a welcoming gesture. He instructed Silas to wait in the car and entered the yard alone.
To bring some life into the mansion, Valerie had filled the yard with greenery. But what struck Lucius as unusual was that he'd never seen any of the plants before. They looked less like decorative plants and more like wild grass, or perhaps some kind of medicinal herb he couldn't name.
Beyond that, he noticed more intriguing details. Several geomancy arrays had been laid out around the yard, and an unusual eight-trigram mirror hung above the main house.
