Chapter 193
She knew it was time to cut things off—dragging it out would only give him false hope, and she didn’t want that.
Nathan’s face fell, the sadness in his eyes impossible to miss. He gazed out at the dim lights flickering through the window, clearly lost in thought.
Finally, he said quietly, “Get some rest. I won't say anything to Jason.”
That was when Denise finally let out a breath. If Jason found out, he’d definitely blow up. He already had enough on his plate, and she didn’t want to make it worse.
Nathan rolled his wheelchair out of the room, and the quiet returned.
She picked up her phone—it was full of unread messages and missed chats. She replied to everyone with the same thing: that she was fine. No reason to make the people who cared about her worry.
That night, Denise tossed and turned before falling asleep.
Maybe it was Nathan’s words, but more than that, she couldn’t stop thinking about Sophia.
