"Mrs. Green," Denise called out.
"You're already Nathan's wife, which makes you my granddaughter-in-law. Why are you still calling me 'Mrs. Green' like we're strangers?" Eleanor said with a gentle smile.
Denise stayed quiet. She'd never agreed to any of this—marrying Nathan was never her choice, just something the Harrington family forced on her.
"Take a seat," Eleanor gestured.
Denise sat down. Brian Hudson walked over and placed a cup of tea in front of her.
"Have some tea, ma'am," he said politely.
"Thank you," Denise responded with courtesy.
"Oh, I just remembered I've got a few things to handle. I'll take my leave," Brian said to Eleanor.
She nodded, and just like that, the room was left with only the two of them.
"I'm not sure why you asked me here..." Denise said after a moment.
"Call me Grandma. Don't act like we don't know each other," Eleanor gently interrupted.
This version of Eleanor was different—gone was the sharp, guarded matriarch. She looked soft, even kind.
