Chapter 117
I waited all day for Garcia, but he never showed. A housekeeper came by with food, but I didn't touch it. I wasn't allowed to leave the room, and the confinement was maddening.
"This isn't right," I thought. "He can't just lock me up like this. When he shows up, we are going to talk."
I was done letting him push me around.
When the door finally opened, I turned sharply, hoping it was him. And it was—Garcia stood there, tall and imposing in the doorway. His presence was intense, almost overwhelming, but I didn't back down. I was angry, too.
"Why did you lock me in here?" I demanded, stepping toward him and meeting his gaze without flinching.
"Why?" he echoed, his voice cold. "So you are that eager to run off? Found someone else to love?"
There it was—he had seen me with Lilly and jumped to the worst conclusion. Classic Garcia: jealous, possessive, acting without thinking. Why couldn't he just trust that I loved him? Without trust, what future did we even have?
