Chapter 13
Anna's POV
As I stepped out of the hospital, my eyes instinctively landed on Lucian. He was leaning against his sleek car, phone pressed to his ear. His usually composed expression was tight with frustration, his brows furrowed as though he was barely holding back his anger.
"Who is he talking to?" I wondered, my steps faltering for a brief moment.
Just then, as if sensing my gaze, he turned his head—and our eyes met. My heart skipped a beat.
A rush of heat crept up my neck as memories of last night's dream flooded my mind. My pulse quickened, and I immediately averted my gaze, lowering my head and quickening my pace toward the exit.
I hadn't forgotten. The way my subconscious had conjured him up, how my body had reacted to just the thought of him—it was mortifying.
Lucian was undeniably attractive, dangerously tempting, but I could not let myself get caught up in his world. I needed distance.
Through my peripheral vision, I saw him move. He was coming after me. I quickened my pace.
