I sank further into the chair, my shoulders sagging. Tears welled up in my eyes. I felt so helpless.
"It's all because of me," I blamed myself. "I'm not good enough. I can't even take care of my family. Because of my inadequacy, you are in this trouble. It's my fault." I sobbed.
"Anna, don't blame yourself." He approached me and squatted in front of me, holding my hands. His gaze was pleading. "I accepted the offer willingly. Trust me. I didn't suffer mental and physical trauma. My client is kind to me. He doesn't hurt me."
"What?" I couldn't believe I was hearing this. When I looked at him clearly, I saw no remorse or even a flicker of hesitation. It was as if he didn't hate this job, as if he liked being that mysterious person's secret lover.
"That person is a mobster," I reminded him. "How could you even trust him? He hasn't hurt you yet, but what assurance do you have that he won't in the future? This is too dangerous."
