Garcia's POV
As I stepped out of the bathroom, something felt off.
The apartment was quiet. The hall was empty, untouched. No trace of Zane's presence. I checked the bedroom, half-expecting to find him curled up beneath the sheets like usual, but it was just as I had left it.
He was gone.
Zane always stayed after our nights. But tonight, he had left without a word. My chest tightened unexpectedly. Had I gone too far?
And then I saw his mask, discarded carelessly on the sofa.
I ran a hand through my hair, uneasy. The thought of Zane being angry with me gnawed at something I didn't want to acknowledge. I didn't like this feeling.
I grabbed my phone and called Lucien.
He answered on the third ring, his voice flat. "Garcia?"
"You're alive," I said dryly, masking my own tension with sarcasm. "I was starting to think you had died—no messages, no drama. What cave are you hiding in?"
