Violet’s POV
It took an extra second to gather myself when we landed at the top of the hill just outside Mel Rimanea. I had splintered us here specifically to get a view of the fight so we could position ourselves as best as possible. But the chaos below was devastating.
Those from the settlement who could fight had already created a barrier between the attackers and the residents scrambling up the hill for Mel Rimanea. Carts and wagons full of their belongings had been discarded as ex-rogues ran for their lives.
Even still, there were too many injured and dead already scattered along the road, including pregnant woman and children. Bile rose in my throat at the sight of it, my love for my own child and my pregnancy hormones amplifying every emotion: despair, rage, fear.
