Dusk settled in, and the hallway lights glowed brightly.
Stefan's eyes darkened. His voice stayed calm and low. "No need for that."
Zoe pouted, muttering, "I knew you'd say that. Beatrice was great, but you broke up years ago. You should've moved on by now."
Just then, Cassidy pushed the door open, heading to the restroom. She froze at Zoe's words.
Stefan looked over when he saw her.
Zoe turned as well. "Cass, are you done already? Aren't you going to talk to Ms. Kate a little longer?"
Cassidy avoided Stefan's gaze. Although she hadn't meant to, she felt awkward, as if she had overheard something she shouldn't have.
"I'm going to the restroom."
Zoe nodded. "Okay."
Cassidy walked past Stefan without looking at him.
Stefan watched her slim figure disappear down the hallway. His eyes became deep and unreadable.
