Chapter 92
"It's beef stew," Margaret said. "The meat's been simmering for hours. I have freshly baked bread, too."
Cassidy hadn't eaten much that night. The smell alone made her realize how hungry she was.
She smiled at Margaret. "Thank you, Margaret. I'll have some now."
"Of course, Mrs. Archer."
Cassidy followed Margaret downstairs, and soon enough, a steaming bowl of beef stew was served on the dining table, rich and comforting. She quickly sat down and picked up her spoon.
The steam rose from the bowl, carrying the deep aroma of slow-cooked beef and herbs. Thick pieces of meat rested in the dark, glossy broth, with fresh bread slices served on the side.
Cassidy took a bite of the beef. After hours of simmering, it was tender and full of flavor.
"This is really good, Margaret!" Cassidy exclaimed.
Hearing that, a smile graced Margaret's face, turning her eyes into crescents. "If you like it, I can make it again next time."
