“Hey, you alright?” I was startled by a sudden voice and blinked as I noticed someone standing before me.
It was Stan, and upon seeing him, I felt even more embarrassed.
“Uhm— hey,” I pursed my lips and smiled awkwardly.
He frowned, giving me a worried look. “You were dazed, Veronica. What’s wrong?” he inquired. “The stalker problem is solved, yet you’re looking pretty caught up these days. Is everything alright?”
Yes, he is correct. It has been several days since the stalker situation was resolved, and my family is enjoying themselves. My work is progressing well, but amidst all of this, I find myself feeling strangely empty. The argument with Christian that night left me feeling lost and quiet; I can no longer appreciate life's blessings. It feels as though I am merely existing, my soul feeling lifeless.
