Chapter 12
VERONICA
Celine immediately approached Christian, gripping his arm. "Christian, what is happening? Why are you remaining silent, danm it!?" She demanded. "Surely you aren't considering a reconciliation with the woman who abandoned you and Zeon years ago, are you!? And now—" Her gaze intensified, fixing on my daughter, whom I drew closer, trying to hide her from her poisonous gaze. "—and now she has a child with another man! Christian, I'm asking you something!" She cried out frantically.
Her wailing polluted the peaceful atmosphere of my home, heightening my anxiety and anger.
"Enough!" I roared, glaring at the unpleasant couple before me.
I was quite upset by their toxic behaviour, and in a moment of frustration, I raised my voice in front of my children, particularly Cadence. She is not accustomed to such volatile situations and becomes quite distressed.
I immediately attended to my daughter, comforting her until she calmed down. As the unpleasant couple showed no sign of leaving, I decided to remove myself and my children, Zeon and Cadence, to the playroom upstairs.
Cadence calmed down soon; her doughy eyes were watery, and her face was red from crying as she sniffled lightly. I kissed both her cheeks before kissing Zeon and said, "You both stay here and be with your little sister, okay, love?"
Zeon nodded like an obedient child before holding Cadence close. The little girl immediately snuggled into his embrace, which warmed my heart.
"Mom," Zeon called to me.
"Yes, baby?" I replied.
His cheeks flushed slightly. He always blushed when I called him baby.
"The rainstorm has ceased," he murmured. "I understand I must depart... C-could I possibly have your number?" He looked up, his eyes shining with anticipation.
My heart swelled with ache. But I composed myself and smiled, "Of course, you may. You are my son. Now that I have found you, I will not let you go easily." I embraced him, and he returned the embrace willingly. Immediately, a small child wiggled between us.
With a chuckle, we held little Cadence as I gently kissed both my children and shared my WhatsApp ID with him before leaving them with one of the servants to face my nemesis who is occupying my place against my consent.
Downstairs, I witnessed Celine standing close to Christian, which only aroused cold hatred for them as I approached.
Upon seeing me, Assistant Blake hastily stated, "Dr. Granger, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, but would it be possible for us to remain for a few more hours? Our helicopter is en route, and we will depart shortly. Please do not worry."
I am unsure whether to laugh or cry. I honestly would never have allowed them entry on the first day if it weren't for my son. They are fortunate to have Zeon with them!
"Yes, Assistant Blake is right," Celine spoke. Surprisingly, her voice was soft toward me. "I'm sorry, Veronica. I was too rushed to blame you before. Now I realize that you're the Dr. Granger everyone recommended."
I stared at her in a daze. This fake acting! God, please, someone give her an Oscar!
I remained silent, briefly observing Christian's sombre expression before retiring to my chambers to see several patients who had arrived after the rain ceased. Before beginning my work, I did not forget to inform my maid, Maria, instructing her to inform me if any of the outsiders attempted to go upstairs to my children...
...........
After more than an hour, I left the chamber due to my dwindling patience.
Upon entering the living area, I observed Celine seated on the couch. A servant quietly informed me that she had remained there without moving. Christian and Blake were likely in the guest room.
I chose not to bother about them, provided they did not disrupt my children's and my peace, particularly Celine's.
Now, thinking back, reflecting on Zeon's reaction to her, it differed significantly from my expectations.
I stepped into the kitchen; my stomach growled, reminding me of my lack of food due to the morning's chaos.
I prepared some quick sandwiches for myself and my children when— "What is your exact plan?" Celine's harsh tone again ruined my comfort.
I arched a brow at her. "What do you want to hear, exactly?" I asked, frowning. Why had she come here?
"You—!" She almost raised her voice but then lowered it, glaring at me. "You know what I'm talking about! You're trying to get into Christian's life again, aren't you?" Her voice was full of disdain.
"Don't cross your limits, Celine," I warned her firmly, ignoring her.
However, she didn't stop, instead— "I know your kind very well! Bloody whore! You've produced a sin and are now trying to tie your bastard with Christian for his money and name!"
As soon as those words left her tongue, I lost it and—pang—I landed a hard slap on her face. But it did not satiate my anger at all. I grabbed her arm and dragged her out of my kitchen.
Her eyes turned red. "You! How dare you!?" she shouted, only to be paused by another hard slap from me.
"Veronica!" Christian's voice boomed in the living room as he rushed down the stairs with Assistant Blake following behind him. "How could you go that far? What's wrong with—"
"Shut it!" I roared as I see red before my eyes. Christian paused, his eyes burning with shock. "Do not utter a bloody word! I've had enough!"
I closed my eyes, inhaling a deep breath before gazing at him again, trembling with pure rage as I clenched my teeth. "You're completely fine now, Mr. Wolfe, and so is the weather. You can leave with your woman now," I stated, my voice harsh and broken.
