Chapter 1 Terminal Illness

The doctor was calm when he told me that I had cancer. My face was filled with disbelief as I stared at the report he had just handed me. 'Impossible,' I thought. Through his face mask, I saw the numb coldness in his eyes. Perhaps he was used to death. Especially for an unawakened wolf like me with low-level blood flowing in my genes. Any virus could kill me. I came for a check-up at the hospital today to see when I would become a real wolf. In this world, wolfishness was the best weapon that one could have to protect oneself, as well as being a foundation for admiration. I did not have that just yet, so I was a prey among the wolves. "Is this my report, doctor?" I asked rather emotionally as I held the report. The young doctor nodded calmly, clearly in contrast to my intense emotions. "That's right. The report shows that there's a virus spreading in your blood. Your stomach is damaged, and it needs urgent treatment. But, unfortunately, it's too late." What? I was here to do a simple check-up. How did I suddenly become a dying person? "Can your family come? Your life's at risk. I must inform them." I shook my head, sitting on the chair like a cold scripture. I had no family. My father died in a battle, and my mother could not protect me, so she put me under Alpha Aaron's wings. I was barely over ten back then. In his shelter, though my wolfishness had yet to be developed, I lived healthily until now. I could not help but slowly fall for him as we spent time together every day. He was a kind and generous person, and although there was a deep grudge between us, he treated me warmly. Unfortunately, I made a mistake that he claimed was fatal when I was 18. We got married, but he said that it was a trap that I set up for him. He said that it was a conspiracy that my mother sent me to him from the very beginning. He was kind to me merely because of the peace treaty made in battle. After my mistake, his attitude suddenly changed. I must give him blood. Giving the winner blood was the condition for the loser to live. As the Alpha's wife, I became Luna. Although I had become his partner, I was not a real Luna. He despised me since the day we were married. "Doctor, I don't think this report is mine." I shoved the report to the doctor, refusing to accept it. The doctor pushed his glasses up and said, "Please face reality. Now you must get treatment at the hospital. I know a great oncologist who should be able to help with your illness." I only accepted this hard truth after falling silent for a long time. "So, what should I do next…" I think I must have cried. The coldness on my face must have been dried tears. "You must stop giving blood immediately. It should be your nourishment, not someone else's." His tone suddenly became pitiful. "Come to the hospital. The sooner, the better." I put the report away and went home, stumbling like a lost soul. Two maids were cleaning at home. When they saw me, they acted like I had the same status as them, telling me there were some cold leftover toasts in the kitchen. I was sick, so I could not eat cold food. I wanted them to make me hot soup. However, they thought I was being a drama queen and that I had become weak after a mere check-up at the hospital. In reality, I did most of the house chores. I did almost everything for Alpha Aaron, especially his matters. Since the maids were unwilling to do it for me, I could only go to the kitchen to do it myself. However, I felt dizzy as soon as I stepped into the kitchen. I had lost weight after giving blood for so long. I could see my body in the reflection on the glass. I was skinny. At that moment, Alpha Aaron came home. I heard his voice. The first thing he did was to ask the maid where I was. I should have been happy he thought of me when he came home. Unfortunately, he did not sound happy. I would have to endure one of his tantrums. "She's in the kitchen, sir." "Get her to come to my room this instant." I heard his angry voice and the maid's scared response. Subsequently, she came to the kitchen and vented to me. "Why didn't you get out when you heard him? You wasted my time!" My stomach was rumbling. I only wanted to eat something, but I could not eat the cold toast. I could only go to Aaron's room while tolerating my gastric. I opened the door while tip-toeing. He only had the lamp by the bed on. I smelled a faint perfume fragrance. It was a sweet orange fragrance. I was sure that he did not own such perfume. Where had he gone? Did he come from another woman's home? I was heartbroken. However, he threw himself at me as soon as I stepped into the room. I was like a weak quail in his embrace. It was pathetic. Although I had the wolf gene, I was weak, like a helpless quail. His hug was warm. Although he had the charm of the alpha, he was indeed cold toward me. I heard him gritting his fangs in the dimmed room. When I had just noticed that, he planted his fangs on my neck. It hurt, but this was medicine to him. I had no idea how long the punishment had gone on. All I knew was I was lying in bed when I woke up. He was flipping through documents at his desk. Not only did high-level wolves have powerful bodies, but they also had smart genes, too. That was out of reach for me. He was full of energy. Sometimes, I would see him reading documents in all seriousness, even in the middle of the night. Such a sweet moment faded after a few seconds. When he realized I was awake, he asked me to draw blood at the hospital tomorrow. I felt fire burning in my throat. It became hard for me to speak. I would die if he wanted more of my blood. Perhaps there was still a chance for me to live if I left now. "Aaron, I'd like to leave." He looked at me calmly. "What do you mean?" "Let's get divorced."
