James made his way to Heaton Group and sat in his office on the top floor for the entire night. Nurano's nightlife sprawled out beneath his feet. The multitude of bright lights illuminated the cigarette he had pinched between his fingers. James felt as if he was being suspended in midair with no footholds. He suddenly remembered how he had orchestrated the abduction. He thought about all the moments he shared with Rebecca over the last three years, and how ruthless he had been to achieve his goal after Penelope returned to the country.
