Chapter 13

She was holding back her anger, she wanted to say that she came back for anything except him, but there was no point in making the situation worse than it already is. He took the lighter on the table and lit a cigarette, he then took a few puffs. The man was immersed in the smoke, his face was full of confusion. "I shouldn't have asked." He seemed very disappointed with this answer. He took another puff and crushed the half-burned cigarette into the glass ashtray. "Sorry, I drank too much." One sentence explained all the anomalies just now. He turned around and walked back to sit down, he pressed the phone shortcut with his slender fingers. "Tell Ms. Li to come up." He crossed his fingers with his hands, and raised his eyes lazily. "I'll find out what happened, get back to work" Lauren thought all this was Terrence's doing, but it looked like Anna made a mistake in this situation. "Excuse me," she turned to leave. Terrence had already bowed his head and buried his head on the documents, without raising his head he reminded her, "Although we were married, you don't have any privilege to enter and leave my office whenever you want. I hope you will pay attention next time." Lauren smiled bitterly. Their marriage had never been exposed to the public. No one knew that they had a marriage before. She couldn't possibly use it as a privilege. "Don't worry, that won't be necessary. I promise I won't come in like this next time" "I hope you can keep that promise." Lauren went back and waited until she got off work. She was very anxious. However, it was gratifying that Manager Sun never called again. She was in such a bad mood that she didn't want to go to her date, but her mother kept calling to remind her, and she didn't want to make her angry, so she decided to go to her date. Lauren turned her computer off and walked in a hurry. She didn't expect to bump into someone when she passed by the door of the conference room. Lauren's bag was knocked open, and the contents dropped to the ground. "Sorry, sorry!" the other party quickly apologized. Lauren didn't care. She picked up her things and hurried on the way. Nothing was missing from her bag. ... The date was at a French restaurant not far from where Lauren works. The decoration was romantic and elegant, and it was full of French style. Stepping into the restaurant, Lauren walked to the table under the guidance of the waiter. Her date was with a man named Barry Fu. He's a senior executive of a software company. Like Lauren, he was also divorced and has a child. He stood up to greet her, "Ms. Xu, please sit down. I heard your mother say that you like French food, I hope you like the place." She thought that he was a gentleman, he was also considerate. Lauren shook her head. "No, I am not very picky. Anything is good as long as I can eat it." She wasn't a little girl, she liked romantic atmosphere of the restaurant, but she was very realistic. Barry wasn't a talkative person, but he didn't let the atmosphere go cold. Halfway through the meal, Barry put down his tableware, he pushed his gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose, he then asked, "Ms. Xu, do you mind if I ask you why you got divorced?" Lauren was slightly startled. Barry laughed to relieve the embarrassment. "I'm sorry. If it makes you feel uncomfortable, then I won't talk about it anymore." "No, no, it's fine," Lauren explained quickly. "The truth is, he… He didn't love me." She thought that no matter what excuse she could find, she would not be able to clearly explain the reason for their divorce, so she decided to tell the truth. "You are very sincere. I don't think I can blame you for what happened. Honestly, this man sounds like an asshole," Barry stared at her and said. Lauren turned away from his scorching gaze, and said lightly, "Thank you." They finished their meals and talked a bit more until eight o'clock. Barry asked to take her home, and she didn't refuse. They earnestly tried to get along. At that age, she didn't have the heart-piercing determination from before. It was now plain, honest and genuine. On the other side of the road, a Rolls-Royce was parked. Terrence leaned tiredly on the back seat and rubbed his eyebrows. "Where to next?" Donny was sitting in the driver's seat, he saw a couple of familiar faces coming out of the French restaurant and exclaimed, "Isn't that Manager Fu from Xu's Holdings? Why is he with Lauren?" Terrence quickly opened his eyes when he heard the words, and his face became even more serious when he saw the scene outside. "Hey, look, Lauren got in his car!" Donny looked at Terrence gleefully through the rearview mirror. The grin on his face disappeared and he immediately stopped talking when he saw the anger in his already tired eyes. After working with him for many years, Donny thought that Terrence was an emotionless psychopath, who could never truly feel anything serious, but seeing Terrence's eyes made him rethink all of that. The weather wasn't very good the next day. There was an inspection that day. Alongside the rain, the atmosphere was very appropriate. The evaluation department was very quiet. As soon as Lauren arrived in the evaluation department, a co-worker swiftly informed her, "Manager Li is looking for you." Lauren thanked him and went to Anna's office without any delay. Anna was reviewing a document, and pointed to the chair opposite her to beckon her to sit down. After a long while, Anna finally looked up, her eyes were sharp. "You have been getting a lot of attention since you entered our company," her words meant something.
