Chapter 2

Manager Sun nodded. "You see, Linda asked for leave yesterday, she said that something happened in her hometown and she won't be back for a while. I want you to follow up on the business evaluation case. I will triple your bonus if you do a good job." "Me?" Lauren's face turned pale from shock. She stuttered on her words for a bit, then she quickly declined, "Mr. Sun, I can't do it. I have just been transferred back from headquarters and I'm not familiar with the domestic evaluation market at all—" "Hey, now, think about it for a moment and don't make decisions so quickly. You should at least try it first before you say you can't do it. I believe in you, Lauren." She has to go or refuse, and she has no reason to refuse. Lauren knew that Yuncheng's business circle was limited, and she was prepared to have contact with his company sooner or later, but she had never thought about working with his company just a few days after returning to China. "But Manager Sun..." Seeing that she was about to refuse, Bob Sun lost his patience and quickly said, "I knew you would come around, don't worry, you'll be fine. Now get back to work." Lauren bit her lips tightly, knowing that there was no more room for negotiation, she got up and walked away. She took two steps away when Manager Sun suddenly said, "Oh, right, I almost forgot to tell you that the market evaluation department of the Gu Group requires the evaluation consultants of foreign companies to participate in the interviews of new employees of their group. With that said, if you want to complete the two-month evaluation work, you need to think about passing the Gu Group's interview first." Hearing this, Lauren realized why Linda took some time off. In Yuncheng, everyone knew that the Gu Group's interviews were strange. She was also surprised that a project as big as this went to her. This kind of project should've gone to her seniors first. The result of this project would be a game-changer in the evaluation industry, notorious even. Linda and those old seniors were obviously unwilling to bet against the Gu group. She was wondering whether she could take a long vacation like Linda after finishing the project. She knew that she couldn't. Linda has a husband who is providing her a little bit of income, and Lauren still has to pay for her mother's medicine and her tuition fees The wall clock pointed straight at five o'clock in the afternoon. Lauren quickly turned off her computer and clocked out to get off work. It's been a few years since she spent the summer in Yuncheng that she forgot to bring an umbrella. She gritted her teeth and rushed out of the company gate in the rain to pick up her daughter Christine. When she arrived at the kindergarten, only Christine was waiting in the security room with a small schoolbag on her back. "Mommy!" Far away, the little girl saw her and giggled at her. Christine was very sensible. She knows that her mother was busy at work, which was why she never asked why she's late. Lauren was very pleased to have such a caring daughter like Christine. Lauren walked over to pick up Christine, and thanked the security guard again. Because of her work and her sick mother, Lauren was always the last one to pick up her child almost every day. Fortunately, the security guard always helped her out by keeping an eye on Christine. The sky was clear on the way back. Lauren took Christine's hand and walked slowly to the bus stop, listening to Christine's voice softly talking about what happened in kindergarten today. "Mom, I made a boyfriend today, and the kindergarten teacher also praised him for looking like his father, he said that he is chief executive of the finance and economics page. I heard that his family is very, richly rich" She didn't understand what rich meant. She only knew how to make exaggerated gestures with her hands, coupled with her small expression, it was amusing to look at. Lauren didn't feel as tired as before because of her daughter's expressions and series of movements. She bent over and scratched her small nose in a petting manner, and asked amusedly, "Really? What's his name then?" "His name is Simeon Gu." Lauren's body stiffened, and her heart twitched involuntarily. There weren't many people surnamed Gu in this city, and there weren't many wealthy presidents surnamed Gu as well. Christine's kindergarten was an ordinary bilingual kindergarten. It would be strange if his child attended that kind of place. She shook her head, maybe she was thinking too much from hearing the surname Gu. Three days later, at the Gu Group Building... "First of all, congratulations to the seven of you for being able to participate in the third round of interviews held by Gu's Media Group. This will also be the final set of interviews we will conduct. I will start asking questions now, so do your best." Human Resources Manager, Wendy Zhao, had a gloomy expression. Just when everyone thought she was about to start asking questions, her expression immediately changed. She stood up and bowed deeply, and said in a surprised but respectful voice, "President Gu." The man called president has well-defined and deep facial features, he was wearing a top-class handmade Italian suit with leather shoes of the same color. The handsome face and the upright figure all exhibit the elegance and nobility of those in the highest positions. "Has it started?" Wendy immediately shook her head as she quickly stood aside. "Not yet, Sir." Terrence took the résumés and flipped the pages, skimming through lazily. When he reached the seventh page, his body noticeably paused for a bit. Then he asked casually, "Do you think you have any shortcomings?"
