Chapter 20 The Sudden Care

Jeanette didn't chase after William. She tucked the sample pill away with care, switched off the light, and went to sleep. Sometime past midnight, William pushed open the bedroom door. Under the soft spill of moonlight, he gazed at Jeanette asleep on the bed. She looked thinner than before, her cheeks hollow and her wrists too slender. She really did look sick. The thought made his brow crease. Since when did he pay this kind of attention to Jeanette? The question made his heart pound. He tore his gaze away, pushed the feeling down, turned over, and forced himself to sleep. But he couldn't ignore the faint sound of her breathing in the dark.
