Julian's expression darkened.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry," Kelly blurted, flustered. "I didn't mean it. I lost my footing..."
Tears welled up in her eyes as she spoke.
Jeanette drew in a steady breath and looked at the officer. He hadn't finished lifting prints, and the scene had just been sabotaged in front of him.
Julian finally snapped. "What are you doing, Kelly? Do you have any idea how critical those records are? You want three years of work to go up in smoke? If this sets us back, I won't let it slide!"
Kelly went white and took the scolding like a penitent.
She had no choice. If it looked like she'd damaged the data out of clumsiness, she might still have a chance to become Owen's disciple. But if it appeared that she'd sabotaged it to frame Jeanette, she was done for.
She only did it because she had no other way. She only did it because she had no other choice. If anyone was to blame, it was Jeanette. She was the one who insisted on calling the police.
