William didn't even catch what the other guy said. His attention was all on Jeanette.
All eyes were on her, and she could feel herself freezing up. Even for someone like her, having so many people staring at her was unnerving.
Before she could react, Giselle couldn't help but remark, "They haven't finished cutting it open. Aren't you celebrating too early? It might be nothing more than a sliver."
Her words drained all excitement from the room. Even James couldn't help but glare at her in annoyance.
But she didn't notice a thing. She was too busy staring at Jeanette's rock with envy, her pretty face contorting with anger.
Jeanette glanced at Giselle but couldn't be bothered to respond. She told the stonecutter, "Keep going. I wouldn't want anyone clinging to false hope."
The open mockery fueled Giselle's rage, but with so many people watching, she couldn't show it. Deep down, she was desperately hoping the rock would crack.
