Curtis paused, and his expression instantly turned cold and sharp. "What did you just say?"
Marceline lowered her gaze and said softly, "I said, what's the point of all this? It would be better for both of us if you just signed the divorce papers sooner."
The hairdryer slammed into the wall with a loud crash. She flinched at the noise as he growled, "Do you not care at all?"
Marceline didn't respond. She hugged her shoulders tightly, letting the droplets from her hair fall onto the carpet.
Curtis glanced over, trembling with anger. "Fine. Go ahead and get yourself sick. Just keep destroying yourself." He then stormed out, slamming the door behind him with a deafening crash.
Marceline leaned against the headboard and stared at the ceiling. Her eyes began to sting, but the upward tilt of her head forced her tears back.
She rubbed her forehead. The pain was dull and persistent—not enough to make her faint, but it was more than enough to wear her down.
